Garageband: Make Your Own Recordings; Body Movement & Games

Peruvian immigrant Anaís Azul (they/them) is a California based singer-songwriter, composer, and teaching artist. Azul has an MFA from California Institute of the Arts where they studied voice, composition, recording, mixing, and music production. Azul has self-released 2 EPs, 3 singles, and is finishing their debut solo EP "Vulnerable" where they co-mixed and co-produced the tracks. With over 5 years of music teaching experience under their belt, they are excited to empower students to make their own beats, songs, and sound explorations in their Garageband class and in the Body Movement & Games classes they teach.

Anna Kingsley

Printmaking; Color, Paint and Magic; Book Building

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Anna Kingsley has designed and printed custom letterpress printed things ranging from simple announcements to book covers. Kingsley also binds a variety of sketchbooks because she believes firmly that anyone can draw and that practice should be a fun daily occurrence! Before starting her own business, she was a special education teacher for students experiencing significant physical and emotional challenges. She currently teaches origami to young children and book binding to both adults and children in her community.

Douglas McNeeley

Build a Circus Week; Extreme Circus Skills

Douglas McNeely, aka Slim Chance, graduated from New College of California with a double major in Arts for Social-Change and Anti-psychiatry and has been performing and teaching circus arts for 25 years. He has written at least a dozen shows and performed with many small independent troupes including: The Nomadic Festival, The End of the World Circus and The Cyclown Circus. He founded ClownSnotBombs in 2006 and has toured the country extensively by veggie-oil bus. Currently, Slim teaches circus arts after school and summer programs for youth across the East Bay area year round. He also performs his solo show the "Circus of Possibilities" for libraries and other events.

EIleen Plichta

Magic and Fantastic; Cute Kawaii Creations

Eileen Plichta is a California based artist who received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Illustration from Kendall School of Design in Michigan. Prior to teaching, she was a textile designer for childrenswear for over 15 years. Now, she has taught after school art classes in local elementary schools for over 10 years. In addition to art and drawing, she teaches crafts, sewing and cooking. One of her favorite things to do is help children discover what inspires them and encourage them through their own creative exploration.

Jennifer Linderman

Origami; Animals and Botanicals

Jennifer Linderman is a self-taught artist living in Oakland, CA. She is in love with Origami, nature and art. Ten years ago, she started her own business of getting children addicted to paper folding in her "Origami Mami" After School Enrichment Program, and when she’s not playing with paper she is painting or drawing. For the past several years, she has taken an ongoing Botanic Illustration course and therein she discovered her deep passion of bringing together elements of botany and nature, namely animals and plants!

Joel Skavdahl

Comics Through Expression; Screen Printing

Originally from Washington, Joel Skavdahl is a visual artist using a wide rang of mediums including 2D illustration, screen printing, 16mm direct animation, analog photography and ceramics. Skavdahl received his B.A. in Studio Arts from The Evergreen State College. He has been published by alternative small press publications such as Neoglyphic Media, Cold Cube Press, and DDOOGG. He often goes by pseudonym SEAGULLINVASION (also the name of his solo music project) and has played in a variety of bands.

Judith SchoneBaum

Cardboard City; Broken Dish and Paper Mosaics; Creative Reuse

Originally from Baltimore, Judith Schonebaum has embraced the artistic environment of the West Coast, where the light, color and rhythms of California have become strong influences. Schonebaum received her BA in Fine Arts from the University of Vermont, including an intensive folk art program at the Shelburne Museum. She is a painting/pastel/collage studio artist, lately focusing on functional/decorative art created from “past use" textiles, plastics and other recyclable materials, reinterpreting traditional handcrafts towards the goal of more conscious sustainability. In addition, she is pursuing her lifelong passions for music, dance and community service through the arts.

Kirk pearson

Stop Motion; Weird Art; Bistro 510; Magic Around the House

Kirk Pearson is a composer and creative engineer based in Berkeley, California. They spend a lot of time writing music for unconventional musical instruments, and, every once in a while, inventing new ones. Kirk’s sounds have been featured in movies at the Sundance Film Festival, on animated shorts for Adult Swim, in PSAs for the UNHCR, and in installations at SXSW, The New Museum, and the American Museum of Natural History. Several of their invented instruments can be heard in Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4, on stage with dream pop band Vansire, and on permanent exhibit at Oberlin Conservatory. They are also an amateur ice cream maker, an enthusiastic puppeteer, and a member of the Oakland Magic Circle.

 

Kristian Dahlbom

Electronic Instrument Design

Kristian Dahlbom (also known as 4mación) is a digital artist, improviser, composer, and educator originally from Los Angeles who currently lives in the Bay Area. They work and teach computer music at the Mills College Center for Contemporary Music where they received the MFA in Electronic Music in 2021. Kristian is also a graduate of the BM in Music Technology program at NYU. The majority of their artistic work is carried out in real-time through live music improvisations with computer-programmed sound synthesizers and processors. The sounds that result from their interaction are biotic in nature and have an uncanny aliveness to them. Their music has been described as silly, primordial, and brutal. In addition to music programming techniques, Kristian uses electronic circuits and various sensors that aid in the sound creation process.

Marti Carte

Underwater World; Gnomes, Elves and Fairies; Hands-On Habitats

Marti Cate is a multi-faceted artist - she has performed a variety of skills and characters (classic Mime and Tap-Dancing Christmas Tree, to name only two!) for many years. As a visual artist, she is an accomplished Face Painter and recent author/illustrator of the children’s book, Baby Turtle in the Big, Big World. She delights in guiding kids in creating fun and unique creations.

Electronic Instrument Design

no.e Parker’s multi-modal works form unexpected pathways between visual art, sound, music, science, and technology. Parker is a pioneer female Dj and live electronic musician with a B.S. in Textiles and Apparel Design from Cornell University and M.F.A. in Digital Art/New Media from UC Santa Cruz. Her pieces re-contextualize phenomena normally taken for granted to address issues such as pollution and environmental sustainability from a localized perspective, while also suggesting realistic/achievable solutions to her audience.

Taylor Gersbach

Mixed Media; Painting to Music

Originating from the Heart of Texas, Taylor Gersbach is a graduate from California College of the Arts with an Individualized Degree. Throughout her education she focused on Sculpture and Community Art; bridging the divide between building objects and building communities. Her focus left her with the passion to bridge the gap between music and art through making instruments and community organization. She has established herself with a wide range of work within the local Bay Area community that let her explore the many multi-facets of craft mediums, music, performance, art education and event coordination.

 

Yael Levy

Watercolor Painting; Mini Animation Studio; Comic Book Illustration

Leah Yael Levey is a mixed media artist, storyteller, printmaker and art teacher based in the Bay Area. She believes the creative process to be its own reward and the act of making an incredible tool for healing and growing.

Born and raised in Israel, Yael first moved to New York City in 2002 to attend the Art Students League of New York, later completing a BFA of Illustration from Parsons(2011). After four years doing design and illustrations for The Unemployed Philosophers Guild, she moved to California to pursue an MFA in Comics at CCA(2017). In recent years she's been a Teaching Artist with Kala Art Institute, Richmond Art Center and JCC of the East Bay and most recently JCAS. Her work has been published by The Nib (2018), Birdy Magazine(2019), Forward Comix(2017 & 2020) and The Baylies(2021).
