Week of June 10, XP Camp A - Songs and Beats with Garageband

Do you want to get creative with music and sound manipulation? When now you can! In this class we will explore how you can use GarageBand and other music software to create your own beats, harmony, melody and put them all together. We’ll also go out on campus with portable recorders to collect “field recordings” for your very own experimental Music Concrete masterpiece!

This class requires a laptop computer or tablet with GarageBand installed. If you are not able to bring one on campus, we have extra devices that students can use. GarageBand works with both Apple and PC computers, as well as iPads.

Week of June 17, XP Camp A - Stained Glass

Design and make your own beautiful stained glass windows! Make your own or choose a traditional pattern, and learn about the elements of a strong design. Campers will learn all they need to make a pattern, cut and grind beautiful, colored glass, solder, and frame up a finished piece. Campers will start with a small project to learn the techniques and then move on to a larger, more complex design of their own creation. Always popular at CAMP 510, Stained Glass is an age-old technique that teachers campers about art and design as well as craftsmanship. If you haven’t tried Stained Glass before this is a great beginning, and if you have, this is a chance to go deeper and work on more ambitious projects and refine your skills. Expect to have a new stained glass window to hang at home for the whole family to cherish. Teaching Artist: Melinda Gray

Week of July 22, XP Camp A - Printmaking
Jul
22
to Jul 26

Week of July 22, XP Camp A - Printmaking

In this class we will be carving rubbercut and battleship linoleum to produce a variety of printed outcomes. Students will begin by learning safety skills needed to create their designs without incident. We will then discuss how to design for printmaking with linoleum, how to "see" in reverse as you carve, and how to create a pattern.

We will have a heavy duty relief press to use for large images and a variety of smaller machines not intended for lino printing but work quite beautifully, to produce our prints. Of course, hand burnishing will be taught.

Students should have an interest in illustration and image reproduction, a willingness to be patient with themselves, and an ability to maintain a safe print studio.

Drawing skills are not necessary. We will learn how to transfer found images and patterns to our carving blocks.

At the end of this class we will also be creating a small shared edition of 4 x 5" prints to share amongst classmates and instructor.

Students should be comfortable with repetitive fine motor motions. If your student has mobility issues, please let us know in advance so meaningful accomodations can be created.
